About Harmony
Every year, millions of people qualify for things they're entitled to (housing, health coverage, food support) and never receive them, not because they're ineligible but because the system asks the most of the people with the least room to spare. Harmony is reimagining how people access essential services, starting with affordable housing in New York City.
We're early, and we're moving fast. You'll join a small team at the ground floor and help lay out the phases of a mission that begins with housing in New York and runs through every essential service in the country.
The role
We're hiring a Product Manager to own the day-to-day of our products: what's broken, what customers need next, what we build, and whether it works. You'll do that across our existing and future product portfolio, working with the whole Harmony team and directly with our customers. Over time you'll become the go-to expert on how our products work. You'll also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Harmony's products: which problems we take on next, what we build for them, and how we get there.
You'll help us define how we build products as a company. This is a role for someone who is excited about getting their hands dirty, diving into the nitty gritty, and building products that will have a profound impact on the people they serve.
What you'll do
Some days you'll be prototyping. Some you'll be deep in a regulation. Some you'll be with customers.
- Sit with the marketing agents and compliance managers using Harmony, watch them work, and come back knowing what to build next
- Figure out what Harmony looks like for future opportunities (SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, etc.): the rules, the people who run them, and the families applying
- Use the product the way an agent and an applicant do, and catch what's wrong: bugs, rough edges, and places where it doesn't match how the regulations actually work
- Turn an idea into a working prototype, and put it in front of the team or a customer
- Write the PRDs and tickets that engineers build from, whether the source is a customer request, a bug you found, or a product we haven't started yet
- Run our standups and planning, clear blockers, and build the tools and processes a small agentic team needs
- Pick up whatever else the team needs. We're at a stage where everyone is close to every part of the work
What we're looking for
- You have strong product fundamentals. You can run the day-to-day of a product: planning, standups, tickets, and keeping engineering and design moving. We don't require a particular title or path. We care that you've decided what to build, why, and in what order, with actual customers on the other end, and that you got there by doing your own research: talking to the people involved, synthesizing what you heard, and changing your mind because of it.
- You like getting into the details. Housing runs on a lot of regulations from HPD, HDC, HUD and others, and they don't always agree with each other. Much of how things actually work is tribal knowledge. A big part of this job is digging through the rules, figuring out what they mean for the product, and working through the edge cases until it's right.
- You take initiative. When you want to know whether something works, you go find out. When something new comes up, whether that's our design system, a housing regulation, or a tool you've never used, you dig in rather than wait. There's a whole team here to help, but we're looking for people who start on their own.
- You're technically comfortable. You don't need to be an engineer, but you understand enough about how software gets built to be a real partner to the engineers you work with. You already do most of your work with AI tools, and you've probably built a few of your own along the way. Ideally you know your way around GitHub. If not, you're a quick study: once someone shows you how something works, you can take it from there.
- You communicate well. In writing and in person, with engineers, customers, and founders alike. On a small team, effective communication is vital.
Bonus points
- Experience working in or around housing, public benefits, civic tech, real estate, or another highly regulated industry
- You've worked at an early-stage startup before
- Experience shipping products or features built on an LLM
You don't need to check every box. If most of this describes you, apply.
Pay and equity
$130,000 to $180,000 base depending on experience, plus meaningful early-stage equity. Unlimited PTO. You must be authorized to work in the US; we're not able to sponsor visas at this time.
